Fosterville gold mine to expand with cement plant

Kirkland Lake Gold is set to receive an onsite cement plant at its Fosterville gold mine with support from Victoria’s Labor Government.

Minister for Resources Jaclyn Symes announced today the plant had received regulatory and planning approval.

It will bring 60 construction jobs and 30 ongoing full-time jobs to Fosterville, adding to the 600 working at the site.

The cement plant project also joins other developing works at Fosterville, including new ventilation, a paste fill plant and water treatment plant.

“Victoria’s wealth was built on gold mining and the industry remains integral to creating regional jobs,” Symes said. “We’re supporting success stories like Fosterville to keep producing and employing locals.”

Kirkland Lake set a revised target last month to achieve around one million ounces of gold production for 2019, two years ahead of the company’s previous forecast, with its growth being largely driven by Fosterville.

Production at Fosterville is expected to hit 610,000 ounces in 2019 alone, up from 350,000 ounces in 2018. Kirkland Lake had initially predicted hitting 570,000 ounces a year at Fosterville by 2020.Read more…
