Demand for workers in QLD’s resources sector continues

Queensland is teeming with hundreds of jobs in the resources sector, from Townsville and Mt Isa in the north to Toowoomba and Roma in the south and in corporate headquarters in Brisbane.

There are close to 1,400 Queensland job vacancies in the mining, resources and energy sectors on the employment board SEEK.

The mining sector has been taking top spots on job boards since December 2017.

Queensland Resources Council chief executive Ian Macfarlane said, “To borrow the famous quote from Lord Kitchener, ‘we want you’ to apply for a job in resources and fill these vacancies.

“Jobs in the resources sector are good jobs. Resource jobs are well-paid jobs. The mining industry has by far the highest average weekly full-time adult earnings of any industry at $2659 – or over $138,000 per annum.”

A Queensland Resources Council (QRC) survey found that 52 per cent of chief executive officers of QRC member companies expect to increase their Queensland staff levels over the next 12 months. Thirteen per cent are also looking to increase employment ‘substantially’. Read more…
