Mining employment optimistic in Queensland

Mining, resources, and energy job advertisements have led the chart on the jobs portal SEEK, with Queensland advancing on a growth rate of 91 percent year on year.

Queensland Resources Council chief executive Ian Macfarlane said, “Last financial year, direct full-time equivalent jobs in the resources sector grew by 12.7 percent to 38,150.”

The Queensland resources industry contributes one in every $6 to the Queensland economy, sustains more than 16,400 businesses across the state and supports one in eight Queensland jobs, which is equivalent to 282,000 full-time jobs.

Mining company New Hope, for example, posted job advertisements for two plant operator traineeships at its West Moreton operations near Rosewood, and six more at its New Acland operations. The advertisement alone attracted more than 300 applications.

“Improved prices and strong international demand is increasing confidence, investment, exports and mostly, jobs,” Macfarlane added. Read more…
